THOUGHTS FROM THE OVAL OFFICE

Hi Fellow Corvetters,

I am writing this column following a beautiful weekend that was more like spring than winter, and as some of the North American Corvette owners start to think about mothballing their Corvettes for their winter, I was reflecting on how lucky we are here in Australia. Apart from everything this great country of ours has to offer, unless you happen to live on Mt Kusciusko, you can pretty much enjoy your 'Vette all year round

As the weather warms up, this time of the year offers ideal conditions to put the top down or remove your targa tops, and enjoy an outing in your example of America's favourite sports car.

In coming weeks, your club has organised runs to Wiseman's Ferry, Gerroa Fisherman's Club, the CMC day at Eastern Creek, as well as brecky runs to Middle Dural and Penrith, which are always well attended. If this weather keeps up, there should be some great club outings ahead.

Those of you who have received an entry ticket to the CMC day are reminded to put the entry in the Corvette's glovebox before you forget, as you will not be able to enter Eastern Creek Raceway without it.

September 25th is fast approaching. An entry form for our first Spring Bella Vista Show 'N Shine is inserted in this magazine edition, and I urge you to get your entries in as soon as possible to help us plan for numbers on the day. I am hoping that our move to September for this event will be greeted with fine spring weather and a large attendance of club members and their Corvettes. The management and staff of Totally Home Bella Vista will go out of their way as usual to ensure the success of this event.

I have not had a lot of feedback from members wishing to enter their cars in the ARMOR ALL AUTO SHOW at the Homebush V8 supercars in December. If you have sent off an entry form to the organisers and have been accepted, please let me know so we can organise our club's display. If you need more information about this weekend in order to put in your entry, please contact me as soon as possible. As I said last month, this is a great opportunity to showcase our cars, as well as having the opportunity to get up close and personal with the V8 Supercars.

Elsewhere in this magazine you will find a countdown clock for our 2012 National Corvette Convention. As time flies, money flies and butter flies, April 2012 will be upon us before we know it, so how about you consider getting your entry registrations in soon.

As the club has many financial obligations such as security and booking deposits to commit to well in advance for next Easter, it would be of great assistance to the club's cash flow situation if you could see your way clear to submit your Convention registration as early as possible. And don't forget there is an early bird bonus up for grabs to reward a lucky early entrant.

The other event that has crept up on us is our Annual General Meeting, due to be held only two months from now, on Tuesday 11th October. As you know, the current committee will stand down on that date, and if willing, will be eligible to stand for re-election. This is also the opportunity for other club members to step forward and contribute to the running of our club. If you are considering volunteering your time and skills to this worthy cause, and would like information on any of the committee positions, please feel free to approach any of your current committee. Nominations for positions must be received by our secretary Tracy at least 7 calendar days prior to the AGM. Nomination forms will be available to download from the club's website, or by contacting Tracy. Please give this some thought as October approaches.

Until next month,
I hope to see you on a run somewhere soon.

Gary Nelson
