President’s Report December 2010

THOUGHTS FROM THE OVAL OFFICE.

Hi Fellow Corvetters,

In recent weeks we have staged a few very successfully events. The Leadfoot Challenge at Wakefield Park; breakfast at the Planet Café at Riverstone; the Doonside BBQ; and our Christmas party at Lane Cove National Park.

At each of these events, I have been impressed by the numbers of members who have willingly rolled up their sleeves, and pitched in to help in whatever way they could. The Leadfoot Challenge simply could not have been held, let alone been the fantastically successful weekend that it was, without the efforts of some of our members. We are particularly lucky to be blessed with wonderful partners whose efforts and multi-tasking skills on the day, assisted us in getting maximum track time for our entrants. Many compliments were passed on from various entrants who enjoyed a well organized and incident free event.

The Doonside BBQ also saw the results of some partners’ culinary efforts, and many hands assisted to make this the usual great social event that it is. Breakfast at Riverstone saw the best turnout of members and their ‘Vettes that I have seen for some time. Our Christmas party may not have eventuated had it not been for Cathy Tulloch stepping forward to make sure it happened, and she certainly did a terrific job and ensured our members and their families enjoyed a fabulous day out
.
There seems to be a theme reoccurring here doesn’t there. The spirit in this club at the moment is really something worth being a part of. I’m very privileged to be at the helm of a club where so many people are willing to give of their time and effort to selflessly ensure that others have a great time. If I can bottle the enthusiasm for future events we are going to have a fabulous year. And it goes to prove that we really are a family club when so many spouses and partners willingly give of their time and effort. If I were to list those who have made a major contribution to the above events, I’m sure to miss somebody, so just let me thank everyone for your much valued help.

At the time of writing this article, we are about to display some of our club’s finest fiberglass at the Homebush V8 Supercars event, and some will share a yarn over breakfast at the coffee club Penrith. Over the next few months there will be plenty of opportunities to get the ‘Vettes out for a run. Gary and Deb have come up with a few new runs to new venues, as well as the tried and proven outings. There will be something for everyone, and plenty of opportunity to show off your ‘Vettes and socialize with fellow club members.

Our magazine got off to a roaring start last month, with a product that has been very well received by both members and advertisers. Congratulations to Karen Ross, our new editor and printer, and Malcolm Cummings for overseeing the project. In coming months we will see more changes in our magazine, with a commitment to ongoing improvements. Tracy has cemented a deal with Australia Post which will result in a significant savings on the magazine’s postage bill. This savings will allow further improvements to the magazine, including a permanently coloured cover.

Bella Vista 2011 is now set in concrete. Our annual major show ‘n shine will be held on Sunday 20th March, rain hail or shine, preferably the latter! We have again been made welcome by the Totally Home Bella Vista shopping complex, whose management is keen to expand this show and work with us to make it the most successful one yet. We have received interest from the Queensland and Canberra clubs to attend this event, and are working on ideas to build on our previous successes.

I can reveal to you that the motor vehicle insurance company, Lumley Special Vehicles, have come on board as a significant sponsor for the next two years. Together with the major contributions we enjoy every year from Totally Home Bella Vista, the involvement of sponsors like Lumleys will ensure that our event will be financially successful as well. It will also allow us to bring you further coloured photo spreads in the magazine following the March show. Partnerships like these will be cultivated to bring us mutual benefits in the future.

An entry form for Bella Vista is enclosed in this edition of our magazine, and can also be downloaded from our web site. I encourage you to get your entry in early to assist us with the planning as well as acquisition of shirts, trophies etc.

Five weeks after Bella Vista, Corvettes of Melbourne and Vicvettes will be hosting the 23rd National Corvette Convention. Gary and Deb are organizing a road trip to and from Melbourne, which should ensure this is a long weekend to remember. Again, please consider sending your registration in soon, if you havn’t already done so. I would love to see a show of strength from NSW Corvettes at this convention, with our own to be staged the following year.

Finally, with 2010 almost over, Christmas is already upon us. To all of our members and sponsors, and those near and dear to you, Vicki and I wish you a wonderful and safe Christmas and a rewarding and prosperous 2011, and we look forward to many happy moments shared with you in the months to come.

I hope to see you on a run somewhere soon,

Gary

PS: If your corvette needs some attention, or you just want to shout it a Christmas present, don’t forget to show your support for our sponsors
