President’s Report February 2011

THOUGHTS FROM THE OVAL OFFICE.

Hi fellow Corvetters,
I know we are well into February already, but happy new year to everyone. I hope that you all had a safe and merry Christmas, and are ready to enjoy another great year of  Corvette ownership.

Since our last magazine in December, we have enjoyed each others company with a run to Palm Beach, set a record with fifty eight mouths to be fed by Graham and Helen and Joe at the December Doonside BBQ, and had two of our members, Charlie Spiteri and Murray Forman take out no less than five awards at the Homebush V8 Supercars, including Charlie scooping car of the show.

After cramming in Christmas and New Year celebrations, there was a run to Wiseman’s Ferry, another possible record turnout of around fifty five ‘Vettes on the roof of Castle Towers Shopping Centre for the All-American Day held by the Mustang Owners’ Club, the January Doonside BBQ, around twenty five ‘Vettes represented our club at the Queensland Flood Relief fund raiser at Harry’s Café De Wheels at Liverpool, and some of our older classic cars made an Australia Day appearance at the NRMA Motorfest in the city.
WOW!! How do we fit it all in?

To all who have actively participated in any or many of the above events, I sincerely thank you for your support. Our club has fielded strong representations at every event that has been held over recent months, whether they have been club social events, or invitational events conducted by other clubs. I’m certainly very proud of the efforts of our members.

Many other opportunities to get involved in your club are planned for the coming months. Some of these require you to submit an entry very soon if you have not done so already.

Our annual Bella Vista show ‘n shine promises to be bigger and better than ever, but we need your entries in by the 20th of this month to assist your committee with the planning, catering and ordering of shirts and trophies etc, as this show is now only a month away.

The Melbourne convention over Easter is fast approaching, and the organizers need your entries in as soon as possible. If you want to be a part of the road trip organized by Garry and Debra, you will need to book your Albury and Batemans Bay accommodation now, as rooms at these stopovers will become scarce over Easter. Some of our Queensland and Canberra Club members are planning to join us on our trip south, which will make for a great convoy of Corvettes, but will also increase demand for motel accommodation at the above stopovers. How about making those phone calls now to avoid disappointment.

This month we welcome on board another new magazine sponsor. Peter Hennessy of Road and Race Performance at Rydalmere has been taking care of a few of our members’ rides for some years now, including our red C4 and the yellow “killer custard” C5, and is no stranger to C2’s through to C6’s, as well as many years of HSV’s and general service and repairs. Welcome aboard Peter.

Finally, there are a couple of things we need from you!
We need photos of your cars for our web site. If you have three or four pics of your baby please send these through to Nick Zankiewicz for inclusion in the Car of the Month draw, and to be put into the members’ Vettes section of the web site.
We also need articles, photos, cartoons, etc for the magazine. You will soon get sick of reading my ramblings every month, so if you have a few words to say about a run or other event you have been to, please talk to me about including them in your magazine.
To those who have penned a column this month, including Les Kernya, many thanks for your contributions.
We also plan to include as many photos of members and there Corvettes on club runs as we can squeeze into this publication every month. So if you remember to take your digital camera with you when you are out and about in your ‘Vette, send us your happy snaps to include in your magazine. Just think of yourselves as roving Corvette reporters!

Well that’s it for February.
I hope to see you on a run somewhere soon,

Gary
