President’s Report March 2011

THOUGHTS FROM THE OVAL OFFICE

Hi Fellow Corvetters,

I wish February had more days in it, because 28 of them was just not enough to fit everything in! I should be getting used to cramming in everything that has to be done in any given month, but maybe it’s something to do with my age, as the time seems to be passing me by more rapidly these days

The calendar is telling me that time is fast running out to register for two big Corvette events; the Melbourne Convention over Easter, and our monster Bella Vista annual Corvette Show ‘n Shine.

If you intend joining some of us for the trip south to Melbourne, and haven’t yet registered, you will need to do so rather quickly to reserve your spot.

And if you have overlooked entering Bella Vista, it is now too late to order an event T-shirt, but the good news is we have extended the entry till the end of this week. So get an entry off to us quickly, and help us to make this a successful club day to remember.

The following is a press release that I prepared for inclusion in the Hills District and Blacktown area local newspapers, as well as Radio Station 96.5 FM, who will again broadcast from the Centre on the day.

PRESS RELEASE 4TH FEBRUARY 2011
“Since 1953, Chevrolet has been producing the car that has been dubbed America’s only true sportscar, the Corvette. Through good times and lean times, the Corvette has survived and prospered, and is still being produced at the Bowling Green, Kentucky USA facility in 2011. Six generations of Corvettes have been built to date.
Corvette enthusiasts’ clubs exist all around the world, including in all states of Australia. Here in New South Wales, the NSW Corvettes Unlimited Car Club Inc has just celebrated its 30th anniversary. Some of the finest examples of the Corvette that have left American shores are owned by members of the NSW Corvettes Club, and live right here in NSW.

On 20th March 2011, approximately eighty Chev Corvettes will participate in the tenth annual Totally Home Bella Vista Show ‘n Shine. This show is the highlight of the Corvette Club’s year for showcasing these unique machines. For ten years, the management, staff and store operators at Bella Vista have worked tirelessly with the committee of the Club to produce this annual feast of American V8 muscle. For only the third time, the show is open to owners outside the club as well, which like last year, has resulted in expressions of interest from other interstate Corvette clubs, and non club member owners.

As we have come to expect, the 20th March will be a fantastic family day. Totally Home Bella Vista readily admit that this is their busiest trading day of the year, and have again committed to a large promotional budget to ensure its success.

Radio station 96.5 FM will as usual be broadcasting from site on the day. Entertainment will include a free BBQ, heaps of store giveaways, gift vouchers and raffles, jumping castle and face painting, pony rides, and a petting zoo for the kids. Several Corvette drag cars and race cars are planned to be on display.

Many of the Corvettes displayed on the day will be entered for judging in the show ‘n shine competition, ensuring a high standard of cars will be present. The Bella Vista management has again donated a $1,000 store gift voucher for the Management’s Choice award for the car of the day, as well as putting up $500 vouchers for a lucky shopper and his choice awards. The Centre also sponsors all of the various class awards and trophies in the show. An entry fee of $10 per car is levied as usual. The entry fee as well as gold coin donations made on the day, will go to the Club’s chosen charity, Learning Links, to assist children with learning disabilities.

The management and staff of Totally Home Bella Vista, together with the management committee of NSW Corvettes, have worked hard again this year to make this the biggest and best show yet, and the highlight of the Club’s calendar. We encourage participants to get their entries in as soon as possible to guarantee their spot.
As usual, the committee will be on site from 7.30 am, with all cars needing to be in place by 9.00am. A condition of entry is that no cars may leave the site before completion of the event at 3.00pm. Corvette Club Committee members will be identified on the day by their bright yellow shirts and name tags, to assist you with any enquiries you may have in relation to the cars or the club.

I look forward to seeing you there to be a part of this record-breaking event.
Gary Nelson
President
NSW Corvettes Unlimited Car Club Inc ( ph 0409098699 for all enquiries )

So come on guys and gals, get those entries in and support your club.

STOP PRESS: The customer’s and tenant’s awards will be 81cm Samsung HD LCD TV’s. So you’d better make a start with all those Mother’s car care products. By the time you read this article you will only have around ten days to get the ‘Vette ready, so you’d better get cracking!

The bare foot lawn bowls day that was cancelled by the St John’s Park Bowling Club due to inclement weather, will be rescheduled to a later date to be advised, and the inter-club (Corvettes V HSV Club) go kart day will also be moved from April to a later date, possibly in early May, due to clashes with other events.

Well that’s it for now,
I hope to see everyone supporting our big day at Bella Vista,

Gary
