President’s Report November 2010

THOUGHTS FROM THE OVAL OFFICE.

Hi Corvetters,

To those who asked me to stand for president of this great club, and to those who supported that nomination, thank you for having faith in me. I love the cars, and the people who make up this club. I aim to make a difference and will not disappoint you.

The committee that you have elected is full of it! Full of experience, enthusiasm, commitment and ideas to make the coming year one to remember! The ‘phones and emails have been busy since the AGM with committee members bouncing ideas off each other on how to improve our club, to maximize the benefits to members.

We must remember that we are steering a social club, formed by people with similar interests in a particular brand of product. This is why we exist! Our thanks go out to the founders and committees of the past, who have kept NSW CORVETTES strong and active for thirty years this year, and we accept the challenge of building on your efforts and ensuring its future.

Throughout the coming months we hope to introduce small improvements to everything we do, which should result in a better product for our members, and more memorable moments along the way. We will be developing ideas for some new social and vehicle based events, as well as investigating some new fund raising ideas.

We will endeavor to have informative and entertaining guest speakers at our monthly meetings. Our main method of communication with our members, our monthly magazine, will undergo some subtle improvements in the coming months, giving you a more entertaining read each month, and giving improved value to our valued sponsors and advertisers, whose continued support is gratefully appreciated.

Most of our members have an email address, and we want to explore ways of using this tool to enhance communication with you, particularly with regard to last minute event opportunities, as well as to increase support for our regular calendar events.

Our website remains a valuable place for club event history and links to many enthusiasts’ sites, whilst the forum is receiving a welcome injection of activity from our “Admin” behind the scenes.

Our membership currently stands at 205 Corvette enthusiasts. It is hoped that our ideas and how we execute them will result in this club being the car club of choice for Corvette owners and lovers, and their families over the next twelve months, with a steady growth in membership numbers, and a healthy financial position from which members can benefit.

Above all, we aim to keep this club a fun organization to belong to! We will not always have all the answers, but hope to provide you with great value for money, great entertainment throughout the year, and a management committee who will take on board your feedback and ideas to help build your club.

Your support for your club can be best demonstrated by participating in as many events as possible throughout the year. It would be a fantastic start to see many of you supporting our members and welcoming our interstate Corvette cousins at the Leadfoot Challenge at Wakefield, and joining us for our Christmas party at Lane Cove Park in November, as well as our regular breakfast and barbeque runs.

Finally, I hope we can look back in a year’s time and be judged as having made a positive difference to this great club.

Hope to see you on a run somewhere soon,

Gary Nelson
