Northern Report August 2008

It has been a couple of months since I have had any time to scratch to put some word down regarding what has been happening up in the Northern Group. I apologise for this and hope to get each report in on time for the Mag.
In May the Northern Group went Mudgee for the weekend and this is report is from Peter Cox who attended this weekend. Thank you Peter & Jean Cox:
Northern Group Weekend Run To Mudgee.

On Friday morning we gathered at the northern end of the F3 pleased to find that we had some fine weather in front us and headed west to the start of the Golden Highway. This is a great piece of road for corvettes, light on traffic, with long straights and sweeping curves with a couple of twisty bits thrown in for good measure. Our convoy was made up of 2 C3's, a C4, a C5, a Black SS Ute and Jean and Pete's C7 (in your dreams Pete). Our run organiser Peter Buchannan led the way in his yellow C3, followed by Chris Larkham in his purple C4, then Al McCarthy in his Pace Car and Frank Rejtano in his yellow C5.Lots of heads turned when we pulled into Merriwa for lunch at the bakery. We all enjoyed the rest of the cruise to Mudgee and after settling in to our motel it was time for some beverages and lot of talk about cars.
For Saturday Frank organised a mini bus and driver to take us all to tour the wineries-much safer than aiming a corvette after quite a few tastes plus the fact the girls could stir everyone including the bus driver all the time. We toured the district including 10 wineries and a pub stop for lunch.
In June The Northern Group organised a run out to the Wollombi Pub. We met up with the Southern Boys and Girls at the South Bound Servo for a quick Coffee and chat before we jumped back into our cars for the cruise out to Wollombi, 22 Corvettes and one town car. Peter & Jean's Holden Statesmen. Before we left the Servo we had one Corvette that was unable to continue on to Wollombi due to an oil leak. Gary Webster, hope everything has been fixed now and did not take your beast off the road for too long.
1 Holden Statesman and 21 Corvettes roared into life and headed down the F3 to the turnoff heading out to Wollombi. The road was a little rough in patches and some cars bottomed out on the drive out, but with all the nice views to look at around you, we were all having too much fun. One spot on the road caused all the Corvettes to slow down because of how rough it was, perfect timing I think and a boy in blue cruised past in the opposite direction.
Lunch at the Wollombi Pub was fantastic, the sizes of the meals were amazing and a group of friends makes for a great day out. Before leaving I had to pick up some of the locally brewed "Dr. Jurd's Jungle Juice" which is a very nice drop with a kick.
We all left our friends at separate times and in different directions on the way home, but what a fantastic day out. Thank you for organising a great lunch, Peter and Jean Cox.

Thank you and happy driving
